The Scottish Government is launching a new Energy Assistance Package on 6 April 2009.  The Energy Assistance Package combines energy efficiency measures with reducing energy bills, particularly for those on income-related benefits.It will replace the Warm Deal and Central Heating programmes from 6 April 2009 and will be managed for the Scottish Government by the Energy Savings Trust via their Energy Savings Scotland Advice Centre (ESSAC) network.

 

It will include benefit and tax credit checks to ensure that people are receiving the right income, and tariff checks to ensure that people are paying the correct bill.Anyone can phone for energy efficiency advice from ESSAC. Groups eligible for extra help with energy efficiency measures, including help with central heating and insulation, include those in private sector homes who are pensioners, low income families with children aged under five, or children with a disability aged below 16, or those living permanently in mobile homes.

Applications will continue to be accepted for the existing Warm Deal and Central Heating programmes until 5 April 2009 and all accepted applications will be completed.

British Gas to cut prices by 10% (from the BBC)

British Gas has said that more than seven million households will benefit after it cut its standard tariff gas prices by 10%.
